Supplemental Unemployment Benefit Funds are welfare funds that provide unemployment benefits to participants who are currently out of work. Contributions are provided by employers or participants, and are based on a set hourly contribution rate or on a percentage of wages.
Eligibility to receive benefits is normally based upon the number of hours the participant worked in the months prior to the unemployment claim. The number of hours required for eligibility and the specific benefit calculations are set forth in each plan. Participants are usually required to provide the Fund with a copy of their state unemployment check to verify their out of work status.
